Is God’s Word lost in your church?

4/25/2021

Day we have a serious problem in the Christian Churches across this land. We have the same problem today that they had in the days of King Josiah. We read in II Kings 22:8, that the high priest, Hilkiah, found the book of the law which had become lost in the House of the Lord. It was a terrible thing in the days of King Josiah for the Word of God to be lost, and even worse, it was lost in the house of the Lord. How could this have happened, you ask? Well, I am here to tell you that it is happening all too often even today. Churches that use to be the keepers of the flame of God’s spirit are today the keepers of the ashes of what they once were.

We see churches on every hand that are trying to live on what they used to possess, what they used to have with God. Preachers, teachers, God is still the same as He always was, so the problem lies at our feet. How many churches do you know of that no longer preach and teach the full gospel message? What has happened? How have they lost the pure and true Word of God in their churches? When the full gospel message stops being preached om the church all you have left is a form of godliness. To which scripture tells us to turn away from.

God has shown me, and you will find this true, that a church will never be more spiritual than its Shepard. There are so many today that are saying, well we might as well become like everyone else. When this happens what you are really saying is, that if everyone else is going to Hell then you might as well go with them. God forbid!

The only hope for the church today is for you and I to purpose in our hearts and souls that we are going to standup for the truth. My mind goes back to the service in which I was ordained. Brother Ray J. Smith preached the service, and he said the following:

“Brothers, above all else preach the truth, never back away from it. In doing so you will find that many will reject it and say no to God. But there are those precious few that will accept it and give their hearts and lives to the Lord. One more thing, you must never preach from your head knowledge for in so doing you will reach their head. Always, always preach from your heart. Because, when you preach from your heart you will reach their hearts for Christ.”

Ministers, teachers, what ever we do, we must never let the Word of God be lost in our churches. When the full truth of the gospel stops being preached and taught in our churches, we are no longer the keepers of the flame of God’s power. We have become the keepers of the ashes of what once was the burning power of God in our lives.

The Value of Troubles

4/28/2021

The other day I heard a minister preaching on how the Jewish people grew from a family to a nation. What stood out to me was the fact that they faced strife, hardship, and the Egyptians making their life miserable. Then I received the article, “The Value of Strife” which goes right along with it (link at bottom of article). I put these two incidents with the fact the if you want to get your muscles stronger, you have to work them more than you have been.

We, as American Christians, have had life so easy that we have a tendency to become weak in our faith. We want to forget Romans 5:3-5, where it states that we are to glory in tribulations and one reason that we have tribulations is so that we can grow in the Lord. We need to remember that if we don’t use our faith against the wiles of the devil then we will slowly lose it.

Some of us have faced a lifetime of tribulations, trials, tests and any other words you want to use to describe the hardships that try to come between us and God. Out of this group some have fallen, however some have become truly great men and women in God.

Ones that we can look up to, ones that we look at their life and wish we had that type of testimony. Never thinking about all they went through to get their testimony. So, we ask God for a testimony like theirs and fall flat on our knees asking God to remove it. We have to have trouble, strife, tests, trials and tribulations for our faith to grow.

It was during the time shortly after Jesus died on the cross that the Christians spread the word about God to basically all the then known world. They became strong Christians because of the troubles they faced.

How about you? Are you the type that prays for a way out of your troubles or the type that prays for a way through them, so that you may grow? Are you the type that prays for someone’s salvation and then as soon as they start having hard times, pray that God will remove the “hard time” so that life becomes easy for them?

Romans 5:3–5 (KJV) And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; Ans patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abrouad in our hearts by the Holy ghost which is given unto us.

Why pray

4/11/2021

While reading this week my thoughts were led to the man Daniel. He was a young man doing the things a young man did when his country was overrun, and he became a prisoner; no he was not put in a cell like prisoners are today. He and three of his fellow countrymen were put in a school to educate them into the ways of their new country and people. The ruler of that country did not realize who he had with these four young men.

They were men that were raised believing in God. It was not a shallow faith; it was a deep abiding faith. I have heard a man preach about how we need God down in our DNA, these four are prime examples of what we can do IF we get God down in our DNA. They learned the ways and knowledge of their “new” world, however they never walked away from their belief in God. They even ate and drank only what God would approve.

God had a plan for all four of them. Three went through the fiery furnace while Daniel went a different way. God had a special plan just for him, just as He has for each one of us. Daniel was a praying man that was known for his dedication to prayer. He wanted God’s direction in all he did. He did not want to step away from God.

We know this because of his reputation of being a praying man. He kept turning to God for answers, guidance, and I believe he turned to God in praise and thanksgiving. He prayed so much that it angered the men around him enough that they wanted to get rid of him.

This brings me back to the question, Why Pray? Daniel’s life shows us that if we make God a priority in our lives, He will be with us even in the bad times that we face. If we put God first, He will see us through the tough times. If God is first in our lives, we will have the strength to stand for Him. The only way we can become the men and women of God that we need to be today is to be more like Daniel. We need to become prayer warriors. We need to be known as people who can be counted on to pray for needs when asked. We need to become Christians that others can depend on to pray.

Why pray? So that we can become the people that God wants us to be.

Why do I celebrate Resurrection Day?

4/4/2021

For years I celebrated the secular holiday Easter. The Catholic Church started it and the secular world took it over. Then we arrive at today where some of the “Christian” religions have started to call the holiday – Resurrection Day.

I have started calling it Resurrection Day because the true meaning of the Holiday has nothing to do with hiding eggs and dressing up in a new outfit. It has to do with us setting aside a day to be thankful for the sign of promise.

The promise that God the Father and Jesus the Son gave us over two thousand years ago. The promise of eternal life with them, IF we accept the fact that Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood so that our sins could be washed away. Then Jesus arose as the sign of our living for eternity with God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost.

Yes, most of us will face death here on this earth. However, through death or the catching away of the Bride of Christ; we the born again, washed in His blood, children of God will live with Him in our eternal resting place. Heaven.

Thank you, Lord Jesus not only for giving Your life and shedding Your blood so that we might be forgiven of our sins and rising again three days latter so that we might live with you for eternity. Amen.

Go quickly and tell

3/28/2021

In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

Matthew 28:1-9

Here we see two women that went to complete their need concerning Jesus. Matthew does not record why they went just that they went. While Mark and Luke states that they went to anoint Him because they did have time to do this when He was crucified (gave His life for our sins). They wanted to do what was done to all that die; anoint the body with spices. They wanted to serve Him one last time. Little did they comprehend what they would find.

When the soldiers saw the angels passed out or fainted, however the followers of Jesus knew more about the Heavenly Beings. The women saw the angel and asked a question or made a statement about seeing Jesus. He invited them to see the place where they had put Him, just days before. The thing that stood out to me was “come, see the place . . . and go quickly.” They departed quickly, they did not stay and speculate on what they saw; they followed the directions of the angel.

What would happen in today’s world if all the true, born again, covered in the blood of Jesus, Christians would follow the directions that the Bible gives to us and the ones that we receive from God, our Father. They went and did. Most Christians today stay and debate with themselves and those around about the reason or meaning of the direction / command.

Let us strive to be more like the women at the tomb. Let us hear and go do what the Lord wants us to do.
