An Overcoming Life

February 10, 2017

We hear a lot about living an overcoming life, and I agree that we must be over comers. The sad fact is today most people have no concept of what this means. Some think that this refers to going to church; some joining a church, some being baptized in water, but none of this is living an overcoming life. Revelations 12:11 “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”

To be an over comer, first we must get saved, really saved. We must have a ‘know so’ salvation. A Salvation where we know the Lord on a personal bases, no one has to tell us that we’re saved. We know that we know that we know we are saved. Jesus has come into our lives, we have surrendered control to the master, and He lives this Christian life in us and through us.

We must pray every day. We must reach the place where, when Jesus speaks, we automatically obey without thought or discussion. Wherein lays the big problem, to reach this state we must forget about secular doctrine. For this doctrine is designed to draw us away from God and His power. As a whole, most churches no longer preach against sin. Smoking, drinking immodest apparel, filthy communication, sexual immorality; these are no longer considered sins. They consider them, simply bad habits. However, according to the Bible all these are sins that will keep you out of heaven. When I say Bible, I mean the King James Version. All other versions I consider are what man wants the Bible to say, so that they can justify their own way of life.

I accepted Christ as my Lord and Saviour when I was fourteen, which was in 1962. The message of the church then was get saved, sanctified, filled with the Holy Ghost and live by God’s standards. Have a conviction that guides your life, the way that you live. Today’s church world has no standards, no convictions, and an anything goes attitude. Then we wonder why God does not move in our services? Why should He? What have we done to please God to invite Him into our midst? To show Him how much we love Him and want Him. Jesus, in Luke 6:46, states “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord and do not the things which I say”. How can the church world, as a whole, call Jesus Lord and not believe His word, and not live according to what the Word declares to be the way to eternal life. God send us revival. Bring Back The Hearts Of Your People To True Righteousness And Holiness.

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching. It is a day of showing your love to the ones you love the best; mother, father, girlfriend, boyfriend, sweetheart, wife, husband and the list goes on.

Recently, I read an article about our relationship to God. According to the Bible, God is our Heavenly Father. The Bible actually talks about him as our Heavenly Father five times: Matthew 6:14, 26, 32; 15:13 and 18:35 (KJV). Do we treat him like our father?

Being a woman, I do not know how men related with their father as they were growing up and as grown men. I do know how I related to my ‘Daddy’ and how I related to my ‘blood father’. My blood father was my parent by blood not by love. He treated me as a stranger compared to how he treated my brother, though we were both his full blood children. It is only through God’s loving patience that I learned to love him for who he was. Now my Daddy on the other hand, I have loved dearly ever since I can remember. He is the man that raised me. He showed me how special and precious I was by loving me, spending time with me, and he did it on a daily basis. He made me feel that he married my mother just so I could be his little girl, even though I know differently.

This is how we are supposed to love our heavenly father (God), our big brother (Jesus) and our beloved comforter (the Holy Ghost). They all have spent your entire life showing you just how special and precious you are. All three have blessed each one of us many times and in many ways throughout our lives. How often do we take the time to set aside a day just to tell them how much we love them? How important they are to us?

Sunday has been set aside as a day of rest by God. Do we rest? Most of us, as ministers and their spouse, are busy tending to our flocks, our families and things we were not able to do during the week. How much do we rest? How much of that day is spent talking to God and giving him thanks for all that he has done for us and how much we love him.

Let’s take the time this year on Valentine’s Day to spend some time alone telling God just how much we love and appreciate all that he has done for us.
