Get Somebody Else

7/7/2018

I heard this song during our Camp Meeting this year and it struck a cord with me. How many times do we as Christians expect God to answer our prayers as soon as we pray them and sometimes we expect them to be answered before we even pray them? Then when God asks us to do something we do one of several things:

1. Nothing     2. Ok, but I am doing something else     3. Tell him you would but you do not know how     4. You are too scared to do it     5. OK, you will do it then "forget"     6. OK, but you put it off     7. Yes, Lord. And you do it then

Read this song then search your heart to see how accurate it is for you.

Get Somebody Else

The LORD had a job for me; but I had so much to do

I said; “You get somebody else, or wait till I get through.”

I don’t know how the LORD came out; no doubt he got along;

But I felt kind o’ sneakin’ like! I knew I’d done God wrong.

1 day I needed the LORD - - - - needed Him right away;

But He never answered me at all, and I could hear Him say

Down in my accusin’ heart: “Child, I’ve got too much to do;

You get somebody else, or wait till I get through.”

Now when the LORD has a job for me, I never try to shirk;

I drop what I have on hand and do the LORD’s Good work.

And my affairs can run along or wait till I get through;

Nobody else can do the work that God has marked out for you.

The Personality of the Holy Ghost

This membership of the Holy Ghost in the Holy Trinity is proof of the personality of the Holy Ghost. We too often think of the Holy Ghost as either the spirit of God or Jesus without His own personality. We must begin to think of the Holy Ghost as a person. He is not the spirit of God or Jesus. He has His own mind and feelings. Additional proof of the Holy Ghost’s personality is found in his manifested attributes of personality. What does it take to be considered a person? What does the Word say that the Holy Ghost does in His work for God?

The following scripture tells of His work and His personality, character, and demeanor.

1. He strives with sinners.

Genesis 6:3

And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

Here is a truth most people neglect; one many people don’t even know. Ministers never teach it. The fact is: God’s spirit will not always strive with man. Now’s a good time to talk about God’s spirit; God has a spirit just the same as we have. We sometimes think of the Holy Ghost as the spirit of God, but we’re wrong, for the Holy Ghost is His own person with His own spirit. Because the Godhead is so unified in working together, it’s very hard sometimes to see the difference between their personalities. Remember that the scripture teaches that the Holy Ghost would not come till Jesus went back to heaven. Before that time, the Holy Ghost worked in the background. After Jesus returned to sit at the right hand of God, then and only then did the Holy Ghost come to the forefront. Now, the Holy Ghost has come to be our comforter, to strive with sinners, and to bring conviction to the world. Genesis 6:3 tells us that man can—and sometimes does—sin away his days of grace. He reaches a place where God’s spirit no longer deals with him. How long will God strive with a person? Only God knows how long He will work with a person to get them to come to salvation. There comes a time when God will turn them over to a reprobate mind.

Genesis 6:3

And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

Romans 1:28

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

2. These three persons, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, are spoken of as one, each in number and individuality in scripture. There is one God the Father, one Lord Jesus Christ, and one Holy Ghost. These three make up the one triune Godhead.

1 Corinthians. 8:6

But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by Him.

Ephesians 4:3-6

3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and though all, and in you all.

There are three separate persons in divine individuality and divine plurality: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. Each is a separate individual with his own likes and dislikes, his own personality and feelings. Yet, together they make up one Godhead; a tri-une Godhead; and a divine plurality consisting of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.

The Father is called God (1 Corinthians 8:6); the Son is called God (Isaiah 9:6-7, Hebrews 1:8, St. John 1:1-2 and 20:28); and the Holy Ghost is called God (Acts 5:3-4). As individual persons, each can be called God, and collectively they can be spoken of as God because of their perfect unity (Acts 2:32-33).

1 Corinthians 8:6

But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

Isaiah 9:6-7

6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Hebrews 1:8

But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

John 1:1-2

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.

John 20:28

And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

Acts 5:3-4

3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

Acts 2:32-33

32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

These scriptures reveal the truth of the tri-unity of the Godhead. A wealth of additional scriptures throughout the Bible further illustrate the triune nature of God. The last verse I leave with you on the Trinity or tri-unity of the Godhead is:

2 Corinthians 13:14

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

31st Annual Campmeeting - Day 5

2/22/2018

This year’s Camp Meeting has come to a close. For those who missed it, we missed you. For those who came, even if it was for one service, we were glad to see you. God will bless you if you came or not, however you will not get another chance to receive a blessing from the services you miss. And this year we had some good ones. If you like long winded preachers, we had some. If you like preachers that get to the point of what God is trying to say and say it, we had some. If you like some good old-fashioned songs we had some, however we also had some newer choruses for those who like to keep up with the leading trends. God had something for each of us and I am sure you would have enjoyed being here.

Last Friday was the last day and in the morning service we heard from two of our Board members, Brother Bob Harrison and Brother David Wilson. We heard words of wisdom and encouragement from both about living for God then they blessed our souls with song. Everyone on in the morning service was allowed to sing God’s praises with specials and God moved.

For our closing service Friday evening after being refreshed with singing and praising God, Brother Wingrove asked Brother Finney to finished the sermon that he had started on Thursday night. His text was taken from: Esther 4:12-14 (KJV) 12  And they told to Mordecai Esther's words. 13  Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews. 14  For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

God put us here, today, in this situation for a reason. We are the ones that God wants to do the job that is set before us and if we do not do as God wants then we like Esther and her family, if she had not done the will of God, will be destroyed. However, if we like Esther do what God wants us to do will be remembered by God when we come before him and he will tell us, “Well done.”

Just like Esther in the Bible we need to do some praying and even some fasting for the strength, wisdom and yes even courage to do God’s will. Esther requested that her people the remnant of the Jewish nation, fast and pray for her for three days and nights then she also had her servant in the palace do the same. Can we not fast more than we do, if she and her people could do it day and night for seventy-two hours?

While she was praying, God gave her directions on what to do, and she did them, and God made the way for the Jewish nation to survive that order of destruction. Do we listen to hear from God when we pray, Esther did?

Brother Finney went on and stressed how important it is to pray. Not just at home but at church and throughout our day. He gave us a challenge which I am passing on to you: Tithe your time as well as your finances. If you tithe your time then you would spend two hours and twenty-four minutes every day praying and studying the Bible. Now Brother Finney did not put a time factor into his challenge, however if after you have done this for one week or seven days and you do not see an improvement in your relationship with God, then try it for another week. God will bless and enrich your witness, testimony and faith if you accept this challenge.

 While Brother Sawyer was bringing his message, he brought up a time when he was pastoring and he felt like he should buy pacifiers for some of the church members that just didn’t want to grow spiritually from babies to mature Soldiers of Christ. When he brought this up it was as if God had sent a spirit of joy to be enjoyed by all. I could not pass up the chance to catch a few to share.

 Brother Aaron Finney preached this evening's service and his theme was based on Esther 4:12-14 where Mordecai sends a message to Queen Esther that ends with these words; "and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" We have gone through things in our life to get to the place that God wants us for a reason.We need to be willing to be used were we are, how God wants to use us.
