5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?10Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. John 14:5-11 (KJV)
We have an example here of how people can still have doubts at times of the authenticity of Jesus’ claim of being the Son of God. Thomas called “Doubting Thomas” because of his unbelief of Jesus’ appearance after the resurrection. Here we have another time when he doubted, however we also see that Philip doubted. Two of the men that followed Jesus for over three years still had moments when their faith was low.
Do we think they were lost, no? Do we think they had backslid, no? Then why do we wonder when we do not feel our passion for Jesus as we did when we first saved asked him to wash our sins away? We all have times that we face things that we do not know what is going on, or why we are feeling this way.
We have to believe that the Triune Godhead is in control and are keeping an eye on us. We have our memories of all the times that God answered our prayers, that Jesus was there with us while we walked through those hard times and that The Holy Ghost was directing our path. We know not why we face what we are facing, however, we know beyond a shadow of doubt that our God will see us through whatever we are facing.
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us the reassurance that you are still on the throne, that you are still watching over us, that Jesus is still walking beside us and helping us over the rough spots on our way to you. Most importantly, we thank you for sending The Holy Ghost to comfort us, guide us and bring to our remembrance the times you have answered those prayers that we pray and no one knows about them. Amen.
