Prophecy

Prophecy is the greatest gift in its class. Tongues are divine utterances, straight from God’s throne room. Interpretation of tongues is, through the spirit, the message given to some willing and yielded person to deliver so all may hear from God.

1 Corinthians 13:1-11

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

1 Corinthians 12:27-31

27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly, teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?

30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

Wisdom

Wisdom is the greatest gift in its class, because wisdom is the ability to use our knowledge wisely. Knowledge is knowing about different subjects, the ins and outs, how they work. Wisdom uses that knowledge to its greatest fulfillment. The discerning of spirits is the process of letting the Lord spiritually reveal to our spirit the conditions around us. Wisdom and the leading of the Lord then tell us how to handle the problems that lie before us. No wonder the scripture tells us to seek for wisdom.

Faith

Faith is the greatest gift in its class, for without faith none of the other gifts could operate. The gift of healing refers to divine power, to effect deliverance from sickness and disease. The gift of miracles is the gift where there exists the creative element.

Matthew 17:20

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”

Should you resist temptation?

11/21/2018

The word "resist" is in the Bible 10 times and 8 of those times talks about how mankind resists God and the way that God wants us to act. However, while two verses tells us to resist temptation this does not mean that they are not very important verses.

I was reading an article this morning called "3 Reasons to resist Temptation" and found it very good reading. We hear so many sermons on how good God is, how important it is to accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, and so many other topics. However, I have not heard that many lately about how important it is to resist the Devil and all the temptations that he has instructed man to put out there in the world for all to see.

I have included the link for that article below. In it the three reasons are #1 - Sin is Deceptive, #2 - Sin is Divisive and #3 - Sin is Destructive.

We all can see and almost all if not all have experience with how deceptive sin is and temptation is so alluring that if we do not resist it we then find out just how deceptive it is. It is like getting a gift that looks so pretty wrapped in shiny wrapping paper then we we open it we find an ugly sweater or shirt or decoration for our home. We were so hopeful and eager to get and open the gift and then afterwards we just wish we had never opened it.

Then comes the divisive part of that gift. We feel we have to tell that person how "nice" the gift is and when we tell that untruth (or lie) we have placed a gap between us and God. Why? Because anything that comes between us and God is a sin.

When we sin we destroy the relation that we have with God.

Below are the two scriptures that tell us to # 1 - resist the devil and # 2 - to stedfastly resist him in the faith.

James 4:7 (KJV)
 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

1 Peter 5:8-9 (KJV)
8  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9  Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
