How often do you read your Bible?
2/21/2021
I was reading an article on how often people read their Bible. Digital or in a book, it matters not. Lifeway research put out their findings on that question and I have copied that website address and put it at the end of this article.
Last week I posted an article on a person having a “heart’s desire” and then I read this and now I know one reason why. If you do not know someone, it is hard to care about that person. If we do not read our Bibles then how can we know God, our father, or Jesus, our brother, or even the Holy Ghost who is our teacher, guide, companion, and the person that intercedes with God for our petitions.
Reading this article was an enlightening experience. If less than half of the people read it daily, it makes you wonder how we even have churches.
You may be a person that only hears the Word of God when and if you go to church or run across it on your radio or television. Then it might be only at funerals or weddings that you hear it.
If you are wanting to make Heaven your home for eternity, I recommend that you start reading it so that you can know the way to go and the way to avoid going. If you know God on a personal basis, you want to know more about Him than you do today. If you have a BFF, you know their likes and dislikes. You also talk about them to others.
Let us all make God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost our BFF and tell everyone about them and this means we have to get into the Bible, start praying daily to get to know them enough to tell others.

What price are you willing to pay?

Brethren, my hearts desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. Romans 10:1 (KJV)
How many of us have a “heart’s desire” to see someone, much less a nation, living for God? Sometimes I wonder how many of us have a “heart’s desire” to make Heaven our eternal home. This makes me go back to the verse about being lukewarm, neither hot nor cold. If our “heart’s desire” is to make Heaven home then we will never be lukewarm or cold concerning God.
Years ago, at a revival, a woman had a “heart’s desire” to see her son saved. It was such a strong desire that when a prayer line was formed, she went to stand in prayer for her son. As so many preachers do, he asked her what she wanted prayer for. She answered that she wanted her son saved, no matter what the cast. Then, I was astonished by the minister telling her, Sister you do not want to pray that. To her credit she came back and told him that her son’s salvation was that important to her.
It is strange that this line of thought is prevalent among the church world today. We can pray for something or someone, however we want it to not cost us anything. If the apostles had felt like that where would Christianity be today. Because so many people have had that thought for twenty years, look where the church world is today. If we continue have a lukewarm desire for the lost, where will Christianity be in another twenty years if the Lord delays returning for His Bride.
For revival to happen, there is a cost to be paid. How much are you willing to pay? An hour a day in prayer or just a few minutes? Be at church every time the door is open, or be distracted by something? How about giving your time and money to mission work on top of what you give to your home church?
The Bible tells us to pray for those in authority over us. That means children are to pray for their parents. Adults are to pray for their boss, their government and for God’s will in this world.
Let me leave you with these thoughts:
If God did not have a desire for fellowship, He would not have sent His son to die on the cross.
If Jesus did not have a desire for you to know God, He would not have died on the cross.
Without the Cross, there is no salvation.
Without the Apostles paying the price there would be no Christianity.
What price are you willing to pay?

Some tangible benefits for reading your Bible
1/31/2021
What do you get from reading your Bible? If you honestly state that you get nothing from reading your Bible, it is time to pray. I have heard many times over my lifetime that you cannot get anything from the Bible – if you read it like a novel. I want to add to that statement that you will even get less from your Bible if you read it with the thought that it is boring.
There are some things that we can do to remedy that from happening again and again. Here is a short list of actions you can take to get more out of your reading:
- Ask God to show you something relevant to your life/situation that you are facing.
- Pray for God to lead your reading to places that you can use to help others.
- Get a Bible Study lesson and read all the scriptures that they present to you then look for more on that subject.
- Get someone to read the same portion of the Bible and discuss what you read with them.
You are probably asking yourself; what are the tangible benefits of reading my Bible? The article found on the website listed below this article, list nine that showed up during their research of forty thousand people from eight to eighty. However, I want to present some thoughts on the last two. Sharing your faith and discipling increased.
It amazes me that some people are able to go to church, profess to be born again and not let people know. Then the truth dawns on me. They have lost their passion for Christ. When you read and study your Bible you get excited or passionate and want to tell others. If you can not talk about what Jesus has done for you to fellow Christians much less to others, you have lost that passion.
During history when God’s people have been under attack or persecuted, they pray more and they search to Bible for answers. When this happens, they get a passion or excited and want to tell others what God has done for them. This is when Christianity spreads.
Have you helped spread Christ to the lost? If not, then it is time to pray and read your Bible and get excited about what God is doing in your life. Then you will start sharing your faith. Then you will want to get with others and study the Word of God which is a way of discipling others.
Make a point of making an impression of Christ on others this year.
