April 2019 Newsletter

In Memory of Robert (Bob) Wayne Harrison

Brother Harrison passed away on 3/10/19 so please keep his family in your prayers. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was always cheerful and willing to help anytime the association needed help and I feel he was this way no matter who asked for help. It is with sadness mixed with joy that he is no longer in our presence knowing that he has been called home to Heaven to be with our Lord.

He was a standing Board Member at the time of his death. We will miss his words of wisdom and insight at our General Board meetings.

Ressurection Day

This year we celebrate the resurrection of our dear Lord during April. What does Easter day mean to you? A day that you get to dress up in new clothes and show them off at church? A day that you have a family get together and the children hunt eggs? Just another day in a dreary life? Or do you take the time to thank Jesus for being willing to give His life for you? There are many ways that mankind has spent the day that was set aside to remember and give thanks.

While pondering what to write I reread Matthew 26-28; and it brought tears to my eyes like those Mary Magdalene and the other Mary must have shed while sitting against the sepulcher that evening. I believe that they also knew in their heart that Jesus would rise, however they still felt the pain and sense of loss of watching Him die, just as we do today when we lose a dear fellow Christian. Yes, they went home for the Passover and I know within my heart that as soon as it got dark, which ended the Passover, that they prepared to go back and finish preparing His body.

I can imagine that they rushed through their morning chores so they could meet and go to the sepulcher; maybe they wanted to check on the tomb and weep more; maybe they wanted to be the first to know that Jesus had risen. We do know what the Angel said to them and that they obeyed and as Matthew 28:9 states, they were the first to see Jesus.

We need to take the time to thank God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost for all they have done for us since that morning so long ago and make it fresh in our hearts today.

Camp Meeting 2019

I was looking at the work that has been done on the sidewalks, they had to wait on the weather, and they will be so nice come June for our reunion (Camp Meeting).

I am looking forward to seeing my Christian family, those I have met and those that I have yet to meet, and share what blessings that have been received this past year. The blessing of hearing of new family members and the blessings of remembering those that have gone on to that reunion with God that we all are looking forward to.

June 17 – 21, are the days to set aside and plan on being in Temple, Oklahoma for Camp Meeting. We have started getting reservations for our dorms. (Men, there will be new beds this year.) Remember they are on a first come, first get unless you have reserved one in your name. Call me to reserve your bed at 817-692-8042.

The Roving Pulpit visits with Rev.

I did not receive a submission from any one of our ministers for this month and Brother David Wilson was kind enough to let me print part of his new book that is coming out this year on 1 & 2 Peter. Hope you enjoy it. This is only part of what he wrote about the first verse and his book has the other verses printed out so please read them before continuing when you are asked to.                                                                                                                  C.I. 1 Peter 1:1

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

In this first verse, Peter tells the readers who he is. He is an apostle of Jesus Christ. What is an apostle? An apostle is a person who had a special and very personal encounter with Jesus. A good definition of an apostle is: one who is sent on a mission by the Lord. Apostles have special power and speak with an authority given by God. I believe that there are apostles in the churches today; men and women who are ordained by God to fill this office in our local assemblies. We know that the disciples were witnesses of the resurrected Christ and were called apostles. Paul also had a personal encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. Some say that Paul was the greatest of the apostles, for he surely had a special mission from the Lord, to preach salvation to the gentiles.

Peter’s life of following Jesus must have been glorious. To think that he was witness to the miracles that Jesus preformed; the healing of the sick, the raising of the dead, feeding the thousands of people with five loaves and two fishes, all these things Peter saw with his own eyes. Peter has his own victories and failures, such as walking on the water to go to Jesus then sinking and crying out to Jesus for help. This was a failure, but victory was still his as he walked back to the ship with Jesus. Then there was the outpouring of the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost; is it any wonder that Peter became one of the foundation stones upon which the church was built? Peter, I am sure, was determined to overcome his failure and to rise above his denial of Jesus. This he did with trust and faith in Jesus.

Please read - Luke 22:31-34

Here in Luke 22, Jesus instructs Peter, after he is converted, to strengthen the brethren. To me this part of the verse, “when thou are converted,” is speaking of Peter after his denial of Christ three times then going out and bitterly praying and repenting of his failure before God.

Please read - John 21:15-17

In John 21, Jesus asks three times “lovest thou me.” Peter replies, “Lord you know that I love you.” The first time Jesus said “feed my lambs,” the second and third times Jesus said “feed my sheep.” This was a message of what Peter was to do. After Peter repented of his failures, his life was changed.

He then came back and pulled the other disciples together to encourage them, to be the leaders that Jesus intended for them to be. The apostles were the messengers of the gospel, the founders of the Christian Church. They were sent and anointed of God. God used them to spread the word of God with signs following. They were filled with the Holy Ghost and spoke with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. They worked miracles through faith in God.

Women of Worth/Helping Hands

Sister Ruff has informed me that she has heard from several churches that were interested in starting a group in their church. She is asking all pastors to pray about starting one in their church and encouraging the ladies to attend the fall Conference in Independence, Missouri in October.

Evangelistic Youth Association

I have not heard about any EYA activities and would like to hear from our youth.

Mighty Men of Valor

Brother Caffrey has also informed me that another church in the Independence, Missouri area is interested in joining with them. Pastors here is a fine opportunity for you to help mentor the men in your church by starting a men’s group in your church. Not only will this help your men, it will also be beneficial to you and your work.

Sterling Full Gospel Church

The local Mighty Men of Valor group is doing ministry work with the City Union Mission; last year they had a boating oppurtunity with a picnic and have got one planned for this year.

General Board Members Needed

Brother Gary Wingrove along with the other Board Members would like our Association to be represented by a minimum of 6 to 8 board members. To reach that goal we would like for all Ordained ministers that have been with us for at least two years to pray with an open heart and mind asking God this question. “Do you want me to become a Board Member of the IFGEA?” Then when God speaks, listen and then act on what God directs. We need to have representation from the state of Oklahoma since Brother Harrison passed away there is no one on the board from the state of our Headquarters. Board Members can be men or women. We, the Association, need your support.

The IFGEA is an association of ministers and as such, it would be nice if you would be so kind as to send in an article or sermonette to be put into our newsletter, the Express and/or on the website. I feel this association is your association and you are the one to be presented so that others may be fed by God through you and your ministry. Be it a song, or a poem you wrote or even a word from the Lord God Most High. However, there is a space issue in the newsletter and The Express so please try to keep it to about just under half of a typewritten page. If it is longer, it can be put on the website. Please mail it early enough to reach the Post Office Box by the 15th of the preceding month if you wish for me to try to get it into a certain month.          C.I. Wilson
