Being specific in prayer.

Genesis 24:12-14 (KJV)
12 And he said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.
13 Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:
14 And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.
Years ago, I heard my husband preach a sermon on “When you pray – be specific.” I was reminded of that when I read the servant’s prayer in Genesis 24. So many time Christians never get specific when they place their petition, or prayer, before God, while this may be good at times, however not all the time. There are so many times we should pray for specific things.
Have you ever needed a job and have prayed and prayed for one in a general way. Like; “Lord, I need a job.” Times passes, and still no job so you start thinking, “God doesn’t answer my prayers.” Try praying specifically as in; “Lord, I need a job now so that I can support my family.” Here you have let the Lord know that you need it now, a time frame, and the reason why you need the job now.
When my husband preached this sermon there was a man in the church that had been looking for a job for several weeks. That day he prayed with a specific purpose and the next day he had a choice of three jobs.
Now God may not answer your prayer that way, however you can expect an answer. Just remember that when we pray we need to make sure all is right between us and God, that we are asking in accordance to God’s will for our lives.
