Gifts of Power
The Gifts of Power are Faith, Working of Miracles and Healings. These gifts operate in the realm of the physical. These are gifts of action, which produce signs and wonders. John states that we shall do the same works as Jesus if we believe.
John 14:10-12
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Mark 16:17, 18
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
James 5:14, 15
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
1 Corinthians 12:28
And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
Laying hands on the sick, by believers, and anointing with oil by the elders are two ways through which the gifts of healings operate. Healing is the mending of the body when it is sick or diseased. There is also a spiritual healing that takes place when we are spiritually hurt. We call the blind receiving their sight a miracle, but it isn’t; it’s a healing. Deaf ears unstopped, crooked limbs made straight and cancers disappearing, all this is healing.
One of the greatest modern day preachers who had the gift of healing was Smith Wigglesworth. He tries to teach us in his writings that to pray the prayer of faith for healing or anything else, we first must get our eyes off the sickness and get our eyes on Jesus. When our eyes are on Jesus, then we can pray effectively, and God answers our prayer. This is faith in action, and the outcome is to see the hand of God heal or work miracles. But we must keep our eyes upon Jesus.
