The Importance of the Holy Ghost

The scripture states the following:

Luke 24:49

And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until ye be endued with power from on high.

Acts 1:8

But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea , and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

The importance can be listed as follows:

1. God provided the Holy Ghost for us.

John 14:16

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

2. Jesus received the Holy Ghost.

Matthew 3:16

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

3. Jesus commanded his disciples to go and tarry for the Holy Ghost.

Luke 24:49

And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

4. All his disciples received the Holy Ghost as well as the rest of the 120.

Acts 2:4

And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5. The Holy Ghost affected the conversion of 3,000 on the day of Pentecost.

Acts 2:37-4

³⁷ Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

³⁸ Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

³⁹ For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

⁴⁰ And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

⁴¹ Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
